This weeks blog of the week is Erin's Awesome Blog. Today she is featuring a blog on Life is a Countdown about slowing down and paying attention. She talks about moving and her wedding. The picture she features is from House Beautiful where she draws inspiration from.

She has a lot of recipe features like this one for Paczki and features a lot of blogs on home decor. One of the posts I was reading was about Ironstone, which I had not heard of before. One of the great things about blogging is being introduced to a new idea or item. Check out her blog it is well worth reading.

This weeks blog feature is Boston Handmade. This blog showcase artisans, artists & craftspeople with shops on etsy.com from the Boston area.

There is a several of blogs worth mentioning that you can read through on this site. On Mondays their is a showcase featurette, this weeks is on garden inspired work.

They also have several blogs on workspaces featuring boston artists, the pictures and stories are fantastic and inspiring.

This site also has a list of boston shops on the right column with stunning pictures of an item from their shops and on the left is a list of Boston Handmade events if you happen to be in the area or live there.

I live in Oregon, so I am far away however the talent I have seen showcased on Boston Handmade is endless. Go visit this blog, it really does have something for everyone.

Twitter Treasures

I have been Twittering for a couple of months now and my whole world has opened up. I cannot believe the creativity I have been introduced to over the past few months. It made me think today about how many undiscovered there are out there.

I have found supplies like these faceted rondelles from Candy Jade.

One of the tweeters I follow posted this fabulous meal plan by smbriones, I ended up getting three as stocking stuffers for Christmas.

Another tweeter posted this portrait of three surfers from Magic Making Arts, this one really stood out to me as my husband and daughters go surfing together and I thought it would fit with his office for his birthday.

Yesterday this stunning Rye Grass Faceted Glass and Pearl necklace was posted by Polka Dot Poppy, I have added it to my favorites. I am looking at it as a possible birthday gift.

So if you have been hesitant about exploring into tweeting but have not seen the benefits, I can say it has helped get some presents out of the way and I have found things I did not even know I was looking for.

Blog of the Week-Paper Tree Designs

This weeks blog feature is Paper Tree Designs. I am new to this blog but was instantly hooked when I saw her blog on the Everafter Tutorial this is a beautiful card with flowers and she has step by step pictures helping you every step of the way.

Today she is featuring this stunning chandelier card from a digi stamp, I didn't even know there was such a thing yet but I am sure glad I found out about it. I love this card, and the rich colors. The other piece I really like on her blog is she mentions what she is using to create the pieces, making it easier for me to shop.

Venture to her blog it is filled with a ton of ideas for creating cards with a wide assortment of styles. Paper Tree Designs is one you will want to follow.

P.S. If you look through her blog she also has a feature on a Go Green card challenge she did that is darling.

A beading I will go....

I am going over to a friends house today to go beading and create some pieces I have been meaning to tackle with some of the fabulous pieces I found on etsy. I have the silver piece, I am thinking a necklace with green and maybe garnet, not sure yet.

The copper pendant will go with the green cameo. I hope I can find dainty copper chain before I go, I am thinking I might add some light green crystals to this piece. I might have some copper accents would really like to do a design with leaves.

Lastly I have the white celluloid pendant, I am planning to add red to this piece and making it retro 50's style.
Will post my designs this week.

Farmers Market Shortcake

I went to the Farmers Market last Sunday wanting to get some fresh produce and created two wonderful dishes that I thought I would share.

The first is the shortcake (pictured)

I found fresh raspberries and fennel scones.

I warmed the scones and than cut them in half, made fresh whipped cream and layered the scone with whipped cream and than fresh raspberries. The sauce on top I just took one pint of the berries and used a masher to blend, added a tsp of sugar for extra sweetness. This was a very refreshing dessert and can't wait to try again, I think any scone would work.

The other dish (did not take a picture of shame on me) is a Beet, Kale and Roasted Garlic Salad. I roasted the beets and Garlic in the oven for 40 minutes at 400 degrees. I let them sit until I was ready to make the dish. The beets I had were various colors and were perfect, I diced them and added to the bowl. Since the garlic had been roasted they just popped out and I put them in the bowl as well. I took the kale and a little olive oil and sauteed almost to where it is charred. I added some balsamic vinegar while it was sauteing. Once it was done added to beet dish and than topped with fresh lemon juice. Blend, Refrigerate until serving.

Etsy Seller of the week is Knight27 whose stunning work includes this Sepia Flower print. Lucie Wicker Photography has a ton of items to choose from including coasters, notecards, and All things Fenway Park. The prices are great too.

Lucie also has another etsy store with pen and ink drawings that are often digitally colored. The sister store is Knighttimedesigns. A great assortment of items to choose from.

Highly recommend checking out her store she has terrific pieces that would be a great accent in any ones home.

Food Find-Veggie Patch Meatballs

I ran across these at the grocery store. These are Veggie Patch Meatless Meatballs. Since our family is primarily vegetarian I took them home to try them out. I have tried other brand of meatballs and they are usually pretty mealy so I was a bit apprehensive but to my pleasant surprise these are great.

I browned these a bit to give the edges a crustier feel, they are good. The texture is right and they have full flavor that enhances your dish. I served these with spaghetti sauce, the mozz salad I posted last week, and kalamata garlic olive bread.

58 Cherries is the blog of the week. I have been following this blog for quite awhile and it is one of my favorites.

She has a lot of different pieces she blogs about including vintage, Mad Party at 58 Cherries-a great piece to read and view pictures-very fun, she also did a piece on gingerbread house under Christmas-fantastic designs worth a look.

Her most recent post is a Field Trip Friday piece on St Charles, MO. (I have one of the pics from the blog posted here)

Dinner Delights

I found some new vegetarian meatballs at the grocery store yesterday that I am going to give a try for Spaghetti and Meatballs tonight. I am first going to brown them before adding them to the sauce though as I have found they generally get a little mealy if not. Instead of a regular salad I am going to make one of the easiest and best tasting salads to accompany the spaghetti. Basil, Mozzarella, and Tomato Salad I found a recipe on Food Network because I wanted to show a picture but the dish is so easy.

Get an assortment of tomatoes (I am going for color tonight so have a variety of colors)

Slice them into think discs

Mozzarella -slice into thin discs

Basil-I slice mine into think pieces

Assemble salad, I do layers and just make the plate festive.

Pour some olive oil on top and salt and pepper to taste

I let it sit for an hour in the fridge to get let the flavors blend.

Serve-I love crusty bread with this, I have even in the past added a few drops of balsamic....makes it really good too

I am so excited to post one of my favorite blogs for the first Blog of the Week. CrayonMonster is a fun blog to follow, she always has beautiful creations and the colors she showcases are eye catching. Right now she has a blog about Textile necklaces, these pieces are stunning. CrayonMonster also has an etsy page you should definitly check out and a few other blogs including The Colors of Me and Children's Books Blog that she also blogs.

New Items

I am listing new items today. I have a beautiful white hand crocheted tablecloth that I am adding . Several porcelian plates with hand painted designs also will get posted too. I added some other linens yesterday a really cute town family vintage table cloth and a bridge card table cover.

I will also be adding this beautiful porcelain brooch, it is really stunnng to look at. I have several boxes of vintage and supplies I am trying to get listed over this next week and than back to crafting.

Cook Off-3rd of July

Yesterday we had a family cook-off to celebrate, yes a day early, the 4th. Our cook-offs contestants are me, my sister, and my dad, periodically other family members participate. We began this contest a few years ago when we were talking about how many magazines and cookbooks we all have and so many untried recipes.

The Rules:

It has to be a recipe you have never tried before

Each recipe is rated on a scale of 0-5

You can only vote on recipes you have tried

The cooks have to try each entry

Mac & Cheese cannot be an entry (always wins)

The Winner: Garden Foccacia 4.4

This cook-off the entries were:

Second Place: Corn and Tomato Salad 3.5 points

We tasted and enjoyed the variety of dishes but there can only be one winner, sadly my entry was second place but I liked it. I ran into a problem really trying to find recipes, I did not feel like cooking and had a few fiasco's on the way. I made the Beet Salad and it said to roast four beets, I did that and had about four tablespoons of salad so had to go and get some more. This dish just tasted like beets, the flavor of the seasoning never took.

Third Place Green Bean and Fennel Salad 3.4 points

We also made dessert dishes which included Chocolate Mousse, Truffles, Toffee Pudding, and Strawberry Pie. The Toffee Pudding was outstanding, all the dishes were excellent but the Toffee Pudding is the one that stood out the most.

Etsy Seller Spotlight: Original Designs By Anna Pereira

Anna Pereira designs wonderful Tanks and Tees, she also has some jewelry that are inspired by positive energy, spirituality, beautiful things and art. Anna is new to the etsy world but she is quickly becoming a favorite. I love this Tank with the Guardian Angel (on the right), it is hand screened painted on a 100% American Apparel ribbed tank. She also lists on the link what the Guardian Angels color meanings are for this tank.

I plan to order some for my girls for birthday gifts, I know they will love these.

What's New

I have boxes of items I am going to be listing over the next few weeks. It will be a mixture of antiques, hand crafted items-we are working on a brand new line that we are very excited about, and craft supplies. Yes, we have been tackling the craft room. I have a huge lot of minature molds pictured on the left I am adding as well as the painting and adorable handmade pincushion pictured below. Some definite treasures.

Tommorow I am going to hopefully showcase a slightly new look and make some small changes to the overall look of the site.

A couple of changes, once in a while I will be posting a review of some of the books I have been reading. I will be showcasing fellow etsy artists again and want to begin a blog of the week that I happen upon, I have found so many wonderful sites I can't wait to share. Other ideas are flowing but you will have to wait on those.

A long awaited post. Since January we have had a continuim of bad health for several family members and I have put etsy on the back burner. I am back though and working diligently on my craft room to get it back to it's glory. I am so ready to create too can't wait. Will post some pics tommorow of new etsy items and a revised goal for blog.

I am back. I have been wanting to post but have had the worst month of my life. Many things from health crises to job crises. Will post more tomorrow and get back into the swing of things. Just stopping in today to clean up the blog and than back to normal. Started posting on etsy again, so things are looking up.

Weight Loss Checkin

Normally I check in on Saturdays but I had the special discount to offer I moved this to Sunday. I weighed in on Tuesday and am down another 1.2. That is 9 pounds total, feeling pretty good about that. Yesterday I struggled a bit watched the blazer game (we lost:() and had the munchies. I just did not feel full and was buzzing with nervous energy. Off to a good start today and working on the challenge of getting 8-8 oz of water in this week. Should not be an issue as I drink tons of water. Off soda for a week to help me through though.

Crafty Weekend Challenge

Online Book Club-Pride and Prejudice Progress Checkin

So I had finished the book I was reading and have started Pride and Prejudice. I am enjoying this book a lot. I have seen all of the movie versions so sometimes I find I get ahead of myself when reading. I can attest that there is so much more in the book. Little mannerisms or side notes that give you that Ah-Ha moment. Of course reading the book I keep envisioning Colin Firth as Darcy, but I have to admit I really liked Matthew MacFayden and the hand gestures in the newer versions.

I think I mentioned previously I have never read Jane Austin before. The language is a bit different at first compared to what I read generally but you quickly get over that in the first few pages. So join in the fun, pick up the book and look at the list of activities on the left side bar. I think I know where I will be taking my walk:)

Recipe of the Week-Tex Mex Tofu Burritos

I have made this one twice. Very good and filling. I had meant to take a picture but it got gobbled up to quickly. Will make sure to next week.

Tex Mex Tofu Burritos
Cooking Light

Ingredients
1 (10.5-ounce) package extra-firm light tofu, drained and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons cider vinegar
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 cup sliced onion, separated into rings
1 cup (3 x 1/4-inch) julienne-cut red bell pepper
1 cup (3 x 1/4-inch) julienne-cut zucchini
1/2 cup corn, black bean, and roasted-red pepper salsa (such as Jardine's)
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 (8-inch) fat-free flour tortillas
1/4 cup sliced green onions
1/4 cup low-fat sour cream
1/4 cup (1 ounce) shredded reduced-fat Monterey Jack cheese
Preparation
Place tofu in a shallow dish. Sprinkle with cumin, chili powder, cinnamon, and vinegar. Toss gently to coat; set aside.
Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add onion; sauté 2 minutes. Add bell pepper and zucchini; sauté 4 minutes. Stir in tofu mixture, salsa, and salt; cook 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.
Warm tortillas according to package directions. Spoon about 3/4 cup tofu mixture down center of each tortilla. Top with 1 tablespoon each of green onions, sour cream, and cheese; roll up.

Artist of the Week-Belle Bags

This weeks artist is Belle Bags.

Belle Bags carries wristlets, belts (pictured on left), handbags, purse hangers and key fobs. The patterns and colors they use are vibrant and fun. I saw this belt and thought it was adorable.

This artist has two sister stores ShySiren which carries a wide assortment of beautiful jewelry pieces. Will feature one on sidebar this week.

The other store is a satellite site for Belle Bags . When I checked out this site, I was mesmerized. Have I mentioned I have a thing for purses. They had a polka dot purse/tote that is adorable. Right now I am using my felted purse I got in December it's fabulous. So check out this new artist on etsy, wonderful items with terrific prices.

I did good this week. Down 2.2lbs I am trying to follow the challenge of putting my fork down between bites (very hard for me) and measuring the food which is tedious but was a huge eye opener.

Online Book Club January-February

The book club choice winner is.....Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin.

So pick up the book and let's have some fun. I am thinking that I will put a post out every 2nd Friday with a book club update and discussion thread. Here is the schedule of events.

January 23-Check in and give your thoughts so far. Since I know from the movies that Elizabeth is a great walker, take a walk sometime during this time and take some photos. I will post pictures from the finds if you email them to me.

February 6-Check in and thoughts. Recipe day, find a recipe to try that would be something that would be made or they would have during Jane Austin's time. Take a picture send to me. If the recipe is really good you can send it too and I will post.

February 20-Check in and thoughts. Tea Day, have a cup of tea in your finest tea cup. Take a picture and share your tea choices and/or you can dress up and take a picture of yourself drinking the tea.

February 25-Final thoughts. Discussion and book club choice for March and April. Rent you favorite Jane Austin Pride and Prejudice version and post what you are watching.

Recipe of the Week-Portobello Curry with Green Rice

I am posting late because, I wanted to try this recipe and share it. This was a fillng and beautiful dish to look at. I would probably add a little bit more lime and maybe a sliver of ginger but all and all very tasty.

I found this on Better Homes and Garden

Portobello Curry with Green Rice
Ingredients
1 cup basmati rice
1 cup unsweetened coconut milk
1/2 cup snipped fresh cilantro
4 tsp. finely minced fresh ginger
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 Tbsp. lime juice
1 lb. portobello mushrooms, cut in 1/2-inch slices
2 Tbsp. canola oil
1/2 cup sliced green onion
2 tsp. Madras (spicy) curry powder or curry powder
1/8 tsp. crushed red pepper
1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved or quartered
2 Tbsp. coarsely chopped cashews or peanuts
Directions
1. In medium saucepan combine rice, 2 cups water, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, covered, 15 to 20 minutes or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
2. Meanwhile, in blender or food processor combine 1/2 cup of the coconut milk, the cilantro, 1 teaspoon of the ginger, 1 garlic clove, and the lime juice. Cover; blend or process until nearly smooth. Stir into rice. Cover; keep warm.
3. In 12-inch skillet cook mushrooms in hot oil over medium heat for 5 minutes; turn occasionally. Add green onions, curry powder, red pepper, and remaining ginger and garlic. Cook and stir 1 minute. Stir in tomatoes and remaining coconut milk. Heat through. Season to taste with salt and black pepper.
4. To serve, divide rice among plates. Top with mushroom mixture and sprinkle with nuts. Makes 4 servings.

So I inactivated everything. I have been retaking pictures and wanted to really go through our inventory and change some prices as well as add additional tags that help describe the items. I am relisting each item within the next couple of days. I changed some of the categories too. Just looking for a new look and quality pictures hopefully.

I am getting to list a ton of vintage items too. I have some hats, cookbooks, leather tooled items, linens and more. I also have a ton of new cards and valentine items. I am posting some pics of the new items for you viewing pleasure. They will get listed this week.

Muapurses carries a wide assortment of handbags made from different mediums as well as a wide selection of hair accessories, pillows, and dolls. They have three shops, I happened upon the purse shop which is one of my favorite things to look at. This woven purse featured to my left is beautiful, I love the rich textures they used.

Chuletindesigns is the second store and they carry clothing items, hair accessories, shrugs and more. Very beautiful pieces to look at.

The last store is PatternParadise where there is a huge assortment of patterns to choose from. I can't wait to share the rest of the pictures for the week with you.

Weight Loss Checkin

Well, I am officially starting over. Weighed in on Friday gained another 1.2 but that was after Christmas and I did have a chocolate issue during this time. I have joined a challenge group that is inspired by the biggest loser but follows the Weight Watchers momentum plan. It officially starts tomorrow. I am starting today though.

2008 Year in Review

2008 was a huge year for me. Although I did not accomplish I set out to do. I spent one of the best years finding myself. I lost weight and hired a trainer (I don't have the trainer and gained it all back), this could be a negative, but I look at it as a positive because I know I can do it. I opened a shop on etsy and started creating again, love this part of the year. I read (I love to do this, but I actually made time to make it a priority). I went to China, wonderful experience and had a second honeymoon. I got to see my favorite team the Trailblazers grow into a great team. My kids grew older, this part is a little sad as I have a 17 year old with one foot out the door, but I look forward to her finding her wings and what the future will bring. All that being said it was a good year.

I look forward to what the New Year brings and have no resolutions to make this year. I have goals I want to achieve but don't want the cloud over my head if I don't succeed.

Recipe of the Week -Vegetable Casserole

I have made this recipe twice, it is fabulous. Great slow cooker recipe and very aromatic.

Vegetable Casserole

Better Homes and Garden

Ingredients
2 19-oz. cans cannellini beans
1 19-oz. can garbanzo or fava beans
1/4 cup purchased basil pesto
1 medium onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1-1/2 tsp. dried Italian seasoning, crushed
1 16-oz. pkg. refrigerated cooked plain polenta cut in 1/2-inch-thick slices
1 large tomato, thinly sliced
1 8-oz. pkg. finely shredded Italian cheese blend (2 cups)
2 cups fresh spinach
1 cup torn radicchio

Directions
Rinse and drain beans.
In large bowl combine beans, 2 tablespoons of pesto, onion, garlic, and Italian seasoning.
In 4- to 5-quart slow cooker layer half of bean mixture, half of polenta, and half of cheese. Add remaining beans and polenta.
Cover; cook on low heat setting for 4 to 6 hours (or on high heat setting 2 to 2-1/2 hours).
Add tomato, remaining cheese, spinach, and radicchio.
Combine remaining pesto and 1 tablespoon water. Drizzle pesto mixture on casserole.
Let stand, uncovered, 5 minutes.
Makes 8 servings.

Where we pick a book every other month and do a chat, share type thing. I have tried a book group locally but I find that it falls apart with schedules the way they are. I am going to post a poll to see if it would work. If it does than I would choose a book for 1/1-you have until 2/25 to finish it. With people joining the group each person would get a chance to select a title and I am open to anything. You can join anytime too, if you happen upon it later rather than sooner. Artist of the Week-Malodora

Today is the start of a new feature, hopefully it is well received. On Mondays I am posting an artist of the week. I am choosing artist who have under a 100 sells. If you would like to be considered, post a comment. I cannot guarantee everyone will be showcased but will do my best to feature the undiscovered shops. The rest of the week a pictures will be added to the side bar showcasing more of their work.

Malodora makes hand-crafted beads using polymer clay. The finish on my beads is the result of hand-sanding, tumbling and buffing--no varnishes are used. I use a touch of Renaissance wax on metals to preserve the patina.

Malodora carries a large selection of jewelry, beads, and cabochons. The colors and designs are vibrant and each piece is stunning.

With a new camera in tow, I am going to retake pictures I have on etsy. I can get better definition and hopefully increase sales. I had taken this Dorothy the Ice Skater picture back in December but she needs a make over.

I am wanting to use props too so hopefully my experimenting will turn out.

I have also decided to make a goal check list on the side bar and see how that works, it maybe discontinued next week but worth the experiment. I tend to be the type of person who if given a check list can accomplish a lot. If I have no check list I am all over the map.

One thing I do want to accomplish is a new look for the blog, I have to figure out how to get three columns first though.

Weight Loss Checkin

One of the most treasured gifts I received this Christmas was a camera. I have been wanting the zoom lens camera for ten years. I took this picture of this moss colored branch on Christmas Day as I was walking around in snow trying to find the perfect setting for pictures to be taken. This made me think about commitment, wanting to take more pictures this year. I am sad to say I went to send out my Christmas Cards this year and had no pictures of my kids together and no good pictures of my youngest. I have pictures now though and they are going out as Happy Holidays cards at this point.

With the New Year coming and my 40th birthday looming some changes need to be made. I have not been terribly great this week and I worked so hard and had a fitness regimen that I spent months on to get fit. I have not maintained any of it:( I challenge everyone to set one goal this coming year and make it happen. I had one of my happiest years this year, but I am feeling a sense of remorse about my hard efforts.

Starting next Saturday I will post a weekly challenge goal, for anyone who wants to join in on this journey comment and I will keep a running list on the site with blogs if you have it to.

This weeks challenge-pick a goal for the year.

Christmas Menu...at last

Usually I have the menu for Christmas planned out in September. Christmas is my favorite holiday, I love the smell of the tree in my home, the decorations and music, and I love being with my family. This year I had a hard time finding inspiring recipes that I wanted to try.

Weight Loss Checkin

Well....I weighed in on Tuesday, did not gain as much as I initially thought which is good. I planned my menu for the week here it is. I only plan the evening meals but am keeping a journal where I write a plan for my meals the next day. It may not always be followed, but I am thinking about it.

One thing you will notice is the menu is vegetarian. While I am not, my family is so I cook accordingly

Creatures are stirring

Adding a ton of animal ornaments this week, have a darling elephant, cats galore, monkeys, dogs, mice all sorts of cute items.

Have a ton of snowman items too. It seems like Christmas is just around the corner. Last night I made chocolate chip cookies, they were so nummy.

With our tree finally up and decorated, I have been avidly listening to the radio for Christmas tunes. I found one song I am really enjoying by Darryll Hall and John Oates, wonderful song.

Holiday Items Stocking Up

I have been neglecting the blog while I prepared for a Craft Faire this last week. Now I am back and have a lot of new holiday items I am adding in the store. Starting tommorow I will back into the swing of things posting frequently and sharing some fun pieces for December.

The craft faire was good, a little slow but I managed to sell one of every type of item I made. The picture to the right the Sweetie the couple snowman which I think is adorable. They are resting on a sparkly snowflake.

I am adding a bunch of gift card enclosures, bookmarks, ornaments - including an elephant one that is too cute, Cards plus more. Have been really busy crafting. Check out our etsy page to see the many new treasures we are adding.

Last night I got our Christmas Tree and the house is almost done, finished shopping so just need to wrap. I feel like I am sledding down a long hill and can't get traction to slow down.

Chilly The Penguin

Just added a bunch of new Holiday Ornaments. The picture is of Chilly the Penguin he is sitting on his sled loaded with snowballs.

I have several Snowman Ornaments I added and a Santa Star Ornament. I am still crafting and working on a cat ornament and an elephant. I have a monkey in the works too.

I love this time of year and joining the hunt to find a perfect ornament for my girls. They get one a year for when they move out and start their own traditions.

I've Been Tagged

1) My family is a vegetarian....but I am not. I cook vegetarian but often make runs to my parents about once a month for a meat and potato dish.

2) I have two girls who were born 1 year, 1 month, 1 day, and 1 hour apart. Both were premies so not planned that way.

3) I carry a book with me everywhere. Grocery shopping, movies, blazer games anywhere where I can get a minute to read.

4)I love chick flicks...If I see a movie that gives me warm fuzzies I go back frequently until it comes out on video. Examples: Bridget Jones Diary, Pride and Prejudice, Hairspray..and recently Twilight (seen twice).

5) I sometimes write down everything that needs to be done in the house and pull items out of the jart to stop the redundancy.

6) I have four books of recipe clippings...I like to cook. Four books of mostly untried recipes that I would like to make. I tend to only make the dish once though, there are maybe a handful of repeat dinners in my house like spaghetti, stroganoff, GI Janes and such. I just like to try new stuff.

New Items-Bookmark Extravaganza

I have been working on items for a craft fair I am in the first week in December. Not posting or listing much on Etsy because I have been trying to build my inventory up. Now that I have successfully done that, I am going to start some listings today. I have been working on some felt bookmarks that have charms, buttons, metal works and are made of ribbon. The picture shows one of the Meow Bookmark I made with a fish button.

I have also been working on, need to take pictures though, old magazine ads, menu, songs from the 60's and earlier. I am thrilled with how these turned out. Will try and list those tommorow, made a ton of fun ones.

Currently I am working on vintage style gift card holders that I am sewing on accents and adding embellishments. So much to do but not nearly enough time.

I was on a search for something different for this weeks Stocking Stuffer Alert. I wanted to showcase someone who had a unique design and was fun and funky. I happened upon Wooke. This artist sells pin cushions, magnets, pins, and illustrations amongst her other inventory items. I found the pincushions to be darling. They are made of wood with original ink drawings, she has several different colors and styles to choose from. The price is right too $8.00 for an item that would be well used and the envy of others. (I would take it to my craft group).

The pin sets are equally cute. They come on a board and reminded me of button cards. I selected the breakfast set to showcase. The set is $7.00 and a great accessory to liven up your outfit or the day.

Friday's Stocking Stuffer Alert is a step from the ordinary. I ran across sweetheartsinner's shop when I was looking for ideas for my father. My dad likes the old movie artwork he is a huge movie buff, he also has a huge collection of paperback and old pulp magazines.

Sweetheartsinners is packed full of items that are appealing to the eye as well as functional. They have these great wallet, id card holder or nano pod casing (you choose) for $9.99. They have over 1000 designs from retro funky to Edgar Allen Poe to Alice in Wonderland. There really is something for everyone with these cases.

Thanksgiving Menu finally done

Every year we join my husbands family for Thanksgiving, They are vegetarian, well so is my husband and kids too, but I like turkey at Thanksgiving. Long ago I started making the turkey and a few other items that accompanied the other part of the food plan for the day. After a few snafus of too much of the same thing or not enough of something we decided we would menu plan with sign ups of who made what so everyone would have a chance to have their favorite items at the table.

I have been working on the menu plan for this year and thought I would share what I came up with. (Quick note: I like to cook and I really like trying new recipes, so I don't ever make the same thing twice unless it is fantastically wonderful or quick and easy.)

The Menu:

Roasted Turkey (Paula Dean recipe with honey and cilantro, yummy)

For this Monday Stocking Stuffer alert, I have selected Pegasusmaiden on etsy. She has one of the best stores I have found, it has a wide range of items including necklaces, handmade socks, hair clips, clothing and more. She also takes some of the best photographs I have seen. Take a peek at her store just to see the quality of her pictures.

Her thigh high socks have custom sizing available and are only $10.00. She has a variety of colors and all are stunning. She is also carrying adorable hairclips which are $6.50 for 3 pairs, a photo of one of the pairs is in the upper left showcase corner.

Among her other items she also has necklace pendants available, this adorable scrabble tile necklace is one of a few that she has it runs $6.50 and comes with a free 20" chain with clasp. I can't say enough good things about Pegasusmaidens shop, take a look this is a great find on etsy.

I love magazines. I thought I would post my review of the most recent ones I have purchased.

Cloth, Paper, Scissors

This craft magazine is beautiful to look at. This is a collage mixed media magazine and has a guide for making fabric books. Although the crafts seem to be a bit more advanced, the instructions are fully detailed and often have piece by piece instructions to guide you through the process. If you are wanting to step outside the box and try new mediums, this is the magazine for you. B+

Stampers' Sampler

This is one of my favorite magazines out there, tons of ideas in the magazine and the pictures are well displayed with line by line instructions and what supplies they have used. I have purchased supplies based on some of the work I have seen done in thiis magazine. A

Mary Engelbriets Home Companion

Although this is not a craft magazine it is a magazine for the creative mind. This is probably one of my favorite magazines that I find ideas in. You can find ideas for decorating the house, recipes, craft ideas and more in this magazine. They always feature an artist whose talent is unbelievable. If you want a magazine for all purposes, this is the one to pick. A+

This Friday's Stocking Stuffer Alert comes from a fantastic shop I stumbled upon. Allenbrite etsy shop features absolutely darling wristlet purses with several different designs including squirrels and owls these are all under $9.50. I purchased a bird wristlet for my niece, it was shipped right away and is darling. They also just added a ton of different stockings for the holiday season, they have moose, swans, chipmunks and a ton more these are $9.50. This shop is full of unique gifts that anybody would enjoy. This week I am adding a variety of gift tags to our etsy store. I am trying to set one goal a week and work on that project in order to build up our inventory.

I have added one set for Christmas and several for any occasion. I am going to be working on more Christmas for the rest of the week.

Seasons Changing

I woke up to a huge gust of wind and a heavy rustling of leaves in the background. The birds have stopped chirpping in the background and the sky has changed from a beautiful blue to a shady grey.

As I go out for my walks I grab a sweater and sometimes a hat. The season is changing and we are entering into my favorite time of year. I like the crisp air, the warm cups of coffee, the leaves changing into beautiful vibrant colors. Some of the trees have allready lost their leaves allready, here is a photo I took of a tree I found while out for a walk. There are tiny little birds on the tree, I think this is a great picture representing October.

Spiced Cider

I love Spiced Cider this time of year. It is warm and delicious and creates a wonderful aroma in the house. I thought I would post my favorite recipe that I use.

Hot Cider

4 cups unfiltered apple juice

juice of 1/2 lemon

1/2 cinnamon stick

4 whole cloves

2 to 3 lemon zest strips

2 to 3 orange zest trips

In large saucepan combine all ingrediants and bring to a simmer on low heat. Simmer for about 15 minutes or more. Serve warm.

Makes 4 cups (serves) 4 to 6

I ran across Little Black Kitty on etsy when I was looking for items for my pets stocking. This store has Dog Leash holders for $6.00, there is a wide selection to choose from and they are all darling.

They also carry catnip toys, the Sushi featured in the upper corner is 6.00 and comes with 2 sparkly fish and 2 squid toys and catnip. They also carry them in single serving packets for $2.50.

Making a List...Checking it Twice

Yesterday I focused on getting our house completely clean. Our weekends are so crowded with activities, swimming, family events, and more that I don't have time to tackle the projects I need to get done. We have our family over at the holidays, so I like to get what I can out of the way. I also worked on my master list of things I would like to get done before everyone arrives.

My goal for this (hopefully stress free season) is to work on one item a day. Some are simple like get wood scratch remover and apply, others more tedious like wash down the molding around the house. I am trying to get two stocking stuffers a week and one gift to get them out of the way ad it does not hurt my pocket book as much. The other thing I need to start working on is the menu, I like to cook so am always looking out for new recipes to try which leads me to my addiction of buying all the holiday magazines I can find. If I find any fabulous recipes, will make sure to post. So what's on your list?

Cold Mornings

This morning I woke up and did not want to get out of bed. It was so cold in the house that I wanted to stay snuggled in my warm covers. With a lot of effort, I got up and made coffee. There is nothing like a warm cup of coffee in the morning. The aroma is an instant perk for me.
We have this great local roaster Stumptown in our area and their coffee is out of this world. It is heavenly on a cold morning like today. It would be even better if I could curl up with a good book, a blanket and more coffee. I think it is harder to get moving on cold mornings such as this. I tend to be more groggy and require more time for just about everything. It is going to be a long fall, and even longer winter. I love this time of year, maybe because I can slow down a bit.

Trick Nor Treat

For the first time in 17 years, I am not going out to Trick or Treat with my kids. There is a huge sense of relief as it always seems to be raining here, however a sense of sadness looms over my head. The girls are growing up and they will be at friends houses passing out candy.

I will miss compiling costumes, sneaking candy out of their bags, and the smiles on their faces when they have hit the mother lode of all candies.

I could hitch a ride on my sisters bandwagon and go out with her little ones, but I think I will go out with friends and have a good time reminiscing.

So I enter this Halloween season full of melancholy and I am sure in the future I will again be asked to go out and Trick or Treat, but for now I am going to enjoy the quiet this year. We don't get Trick or Treaters here or I would stay home.

Using Magnetic Clasp On Your Jewelry Pieces

I just made my first jewelry piece using a magnetic clasp. I made the mistake of using a silver chain and trying to attach it early. After thinking this through, I made the chain with the garnet strand attached it at the end. I am not sure I would use magnetic clasps again, although the clasp I had was beautiful and not available by different medium. If I do use again I would thread the beads instead of a chain. The end result I am very pleased with and I like the delicacy the whole piece.

Crafters Block

I have been trying to make a new item a day to post on our etsy site. This should be a fairly easy task as I like to try all different types of mediums and have tons of ideas. The hitch-I am suffering from Crafter's Block. I have been making a couple of different pieces the last couple of days but I am all over the map, I pick something up start it and than put it down to move on to the next thing. I have been making and taking apart a few pieces that I just kept looking at and thinking it was not working for me. I need to get focused, I had a list of ideas I was working through but I kept skipping pages of ideas. I feel like Gene Wilder in Young Frankenstein prancing around the lab with erratic thoughts, except I am in my craft room. So what is the solution? Don't know, I think I am going to clean my craft room and focus on reorganizing until a great design pops in my head.

Beginning of the Holiday Season

With the holiday season on the horizon, I have allready started the hunt for amazing Christmas gifts to give my family. We have such a variety of personalities in our family that it can be hard finding the right gift. I have been picking out a few items on Etsy for family members that I am sure they will love.

Starting Sunday, I will be showcasing one designers work a week as we countdown to Christmas. I will be looking at gifts for all ages, items that I think would bring a special smile to the reciever of the gift. I will also be adding a Stocking Stuffer alert on the side bar. This will be filled with finds I see that are under $10.00 and would fit in a stocking.
